A note excusing my absence

Dear reader,

Please excuse my absence during my unplanned extended sabbatical. I didn’t mean to be gone so long. I fully intended to take December off to reconnect and spend time with my family, but the extra time ended up being necessary to reconnect with my soul. This time off has allowed me to reflect on my purpose, whether I really want to write about wellness, and what I really mean to convey with my writing.

Here’s what went down in the last few months:

I ended up with a case of imposter syndrome. I started to wonder if what I was doing was helping anyone. Was I really qualified to be passing on this information? Was anyone even reading what I was working so hard to write? Honestly, so many people are saying these same things. Do I need to repeat them? Why do I think my story is important enough to share with the world? Heck, my own husband doesn’t listen to what I have to say about health and longevity, why would anyone else? Yeah, basically my mean girl was outdoing herself.

Along these same lines, once writing wasn’t in my routine it kind of fell off my priority list. Once I realized that I didn’t have to do it–the world didn’t end, after all–it seemed so overwhelming to start again. I really didn’t want to put myself out there again. Or did I?

During the last several months, I have learned that I do have a story worth sharing. I have lost the weight, fixed my gut, increased my energy, tamed my mean girl, and hacked my biology to work better for me. I am highly educated on the subject of integrative nutrition, and I am willing to share what I have learned so that others can benefit from my knowledge (without having to become international experts).

They say that if a person reads an hour a day on a particular subject, that person will be an international expert on the said subject at the end of 7 years. If that is true, I’m well on my way. The good thing for you is that I like to share. Yeah, I might be wrong a few times along the way. What works for me might not work for you, not everything I report may turn out to be right in the end, but anything I share has low risk and a high rate of return.

So, welcome back! Thanks for being patient with me while I worked these things out. I am excited about what I have in store for you each week. This truly will be a journal of Dona’s Nourished Life. My stories are yours to use as you will. Take what is useful and leave the rest. I appreciate you reading.
